Tasmanian Eye Institute
This cutting-edge facility is the site of Australia's first dedicated Ophthalmic Gene Therapy Centre, led by Brendon Vote and Tasmanian Professor Alex Hewitt, a world expert in genetic eye research. The 'circular' theme of this building has carried over into the interior design and fit-out, from the curved staircase to the 'Wave Round' light feature. It includes modern, sleek finishes with curved walls and many windows creating bright, open spaces flooded with natural light. It features a weighing bench made from a precast concrete slab, a lab kitchen, and an ultra-clean room. From inside the Gene Therapy Centre, the windows transform into a living canvas. They frame Hobart's most recognizable landmark, the majestic Mount Wellington, like a curated masterpiece. Sunlight streams through the expansive panes, bathing the interior in a warm glow and illuminating the mountain's rugged peak.
